Donald Trump (6do encyclopedia)230510

Donald John Trump (born June 14, 1946) is an American businessman, television personality, politician, and 45th president of the United States from January 20, 2017, to January 20, 2021. He was the first president in U.S. history to have been impeached twice by the House of Representatives, first for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress in December 2019 and then again for incitement of insurrection in January 2021.

Trump was born and raised in Queens, New York City. He earned an economics degree from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and joined his father’s real estate business, which he quickly became the president of. He expanded the business into Manhattan, where he built prominent properties such as Trump Tower, and subsequently became a household name. Trump also became known for his television show, The Apprentice, which first aired in 2004 and ran for 15 seasons.

Trump made his first foray into politics in the late 1980s when he registered as a Republican, but it was not until the presidential election of 2016 that he ran for political office. Trump won the Republican nomination for president, defeating 16 other candidates, and he went on to defeat Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton in the general election. His victory shocked many in the political establishment and was fueled by a populist wave among American voters who were dissatisfied with mainstream politics.

Trump’s presidency was characterized by controversy from the outset. He was a polarizing figure who often espoused divisive rhetoric on topics such as race, immigration, and climate change. He was also known for his unconventional use of social media, particularly Twitter, which he used to communicate directly with the public and frequently attack his opponents and critics.

Trump’s policy initiatives included a major overhaul of the tax system, a repeal and replacement of the Affordable Care Act, and the negotiation of a new trade deal with Canada and Mexico. He also implemented a series of contentious policies related to immigration, including a travel ban on several predominantly Muslim countries and the separation of migrant families at the southern U.S. border.

Trump’s presidency was further complicated by a number of high-profile controversies, including investigations into alleged collusion with Russia during the 2016 election, his firing of FBI Director James Comey, and his impeachment. He was ultimately acquitted of both impeachment charges by the Senate in 2020, but the controversy surrounding his presidency continued to mount.

In November 2020, Trump lost his bid for re-election to Democratic nominee Joe Biden, but he refused to concede and made baseless claims of widespread voter fraud. This led to a chaotic and violent insurrection at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, which resulted in the deaths of five people and widespread condemnation of Trump’s role in inciting the violence.

On January 13, 2021, Trump became the first president in United States history to be impeached twice, this time for incitement of insurrection. The Senate trial began on February 9, 2021, but he was again acquitted on February 13, 2021.

Trump’s legacy as president continues to be debated, with his supporters crediting him with a strong economy and a tough stance on international trade, while his critics argue that his policies were harmful to social and political divisions in the country.

Washington Post

Republican Congressman George Santos has been charged with fraud, money laundering, theft of public funds and false statements following reports that he defrauded donors to his political campaign and gave them false information about his campaign’s finances. Allegedly, the congressman then used the funds raised for his 2022 campaign to pay for designer clothing and personal debts. The charges also include claims of falsely representing the financial situation of a Florida-based investment firm where he was employed as a regional director. Santos surrendered to US federal authorities on Wednesday morning. These latest allegations may endanger his chances of re-election.

Former Elle magazine advice columnist E. Jean Carroll has won her civil lawsuit against former US President Donald Trump. A jury determined that Trump was liable for sexually abusing and defaming Carroll, who had publicly accused him of raping her in the mid-1990s. Although jurors did not find that Trump raped Carroll, they awarded her $5m damages over the incident and over a post last October on Trump’s Truth Social platform in which he called her claim a “complete con job”. Trump plans to appeal, but Carroll said she was not concerned about receiving payment, stating: “This is not about the money - not about the money. This is accomplishing something that I set out to do many years ago to get my name back, and that's what we did.”
