Newly-filed court documents have revealed that Kouri Richins, a Utah mother charged with the poisoning of her husband, was coping with around $2.5m in debt, including in tax liabilities and unpaid taxes, in the days leading up to the victim's death. Kouri Richins, 33, is accused of murder in connection to the death of Eric Richins, her 39-year-old husband and father to their three children, in March 2022. The documents have revealed details of previous poisoning attempts, including the discovery that in late January 2022, Ms Richins took out a new insurance policy on her husband totalling nearly $2m, and that she procured illicit fentanyl soon after. On 4 February, Valentine's Day, she prepared a sandwich with fentanyl for her husband while the couple were having financial disagreements. Eric Richins subsequently broke out in hives and had difficulty breathing, and told friends that he thought his wife was trying to poison him.
