Many people don't know the right way to shave, according to Dr. Monica Li, a double board-certified dermatologist at Vancouver Skin MD clinic. Bump-free results can be achieved by dampening skin to soften hair to facilitate razor gliding, using a razor with more than three blades, and avoiding alcohol-containing shaving products. Dr. Li also suggested shaving in the direction of hair growth to prevent razor bumps and burns and changing razor blades after five to seven shaves. Sensitive new skin should also be moisturised to protect it and potent corticosteroid creams applied for razor burns and ingrown hairs to reduce inflammation.
