The human rights situation in Myanmar is in crisis, with the devastation following Cyclone Mocha last week escalating the situation. Over 400,000 buildings, including hospitals, schools and internally displaced persons camps, have been damaged, affecting an estimated 1.5 million people. While the United League of Arakan and the Arakan Army have had time to prepare for the cyclone and call for international assistance, the actions of Myanmar's military junta have been criticized for a lack of preparedness and neglecting Rohingya Muslims in camps. The UN has been restricted by the junta's authority to provide aid, leading to calls for foreign governments, NGOs, and UN organizations to reconsider their reliance on Myanmar's regime to deliver aid.
